
Pipe Bursts, Shutting Down Grand Rapids Public Museum
UPDATE: Grand Rapids Public Museum announced it will reopen Friday, January 24. However, The Streets of Grand Rapids exhibit remains closed after the pipe burst Thursday morning as restoration continues.
Severe winter weather has been wreaking havoc in West Michigan. Water main breaks, traffic pile-ups, downed power lines, burst pipes, and other issues have plagued the area.
On Thursday, the Grand Rapids Public Museum shared that a pipe had burst on the first floor of the facility.

A video shared to Facebook shows the damage, including flooding in The Streets of Old Grand Rapids exhibit, and cracked tile.

The museum says,
Thanks to our exhibits and facilities staff's swift response, facility repairs will be manageable.
A few artifacts were damaged by water, but they say nothing is beyond repair.

GRPM shares they are confident for a quick recovery and appreciate the community's support.
The museum is closed Thursday January 23.

They say to stay tuned for updates regarding the restoration process and when the museum will reopen.

A $50 million renovation is still underway at GRPM. It includes enhancing the Museum's outdoor spaces to include new river access, accessible trails, outdoor teaching, and event space.
A portion of the Community Archives and Research Center into a new public space and multiple core exhibition spaces will be refreshed and reimagined as well.
The project is expected to be completed sometime this year.
