On May 17, 2023, Glenn "Shemy" Shembechler, son of legendary Michigan coach Bo Schembechler was hired as the assistant director of recruiting for the U of M. Three days later he is out of a job because of offensive social media posts.

According to the Detroit News, Schembechler's Twitter account had multiple offensive and insensitive posts including several suggesting slavery and Jim Crow were positives to strengthen Black individuals and families.

Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh and athletic director Warde Manuel said in a joint statement, "Effective this afternoon, Shemy Schembehler has resigned his position with Michigan Football. We are aware of some comments and likes on social media that have caused concern and pain for individuals in our community."
