Rock fans woke up this morning to discover some sad news. Legendary guitarist Tony Iommi has been diagnosed with the early stages of lymphoma.

The announcement was made on Black Sabbath's official Facebook page (via NME).

"With the news that Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi has been diagnosed with the early stages of lymphoma, his bandmates would like everyone to send positive vibes to the guitarist at this time. Iommi is currently working with his doctors to establish the best treatment plan--the 'IRON MAN' of Rock & Roll remains upbeat and determined to make a full and successful recovery."

After announcing their reunion late last year with plans to record a new studio album and embark on a world tour, the group was in Los Angeles with producer Rick Rubin to write and record the new disc. They will now head to the U.K. and work with Iommi.

No details were given if this would affect Black Sabbath's tour plans. The band have already booked European shows this summer, including a slot at the Download Festival.
