A new spot for tacos, tequila, and whiskey is opening up in South Haven later this week.

The building its opening up in has been home to multiple restaurants over the years.

Growing up in South Haven, the first restaurant I remember being located at 248 Broadway St. was Joe's Bar and Grill. I believe it opened up around 2010. After 8 years, it closed and Gino's East, a Chicago-based pizza chain, moved in.

Gino's shut down in 2021. The following year, Social House Kitchen and Bar opened its doors.

I don't remember hearing about Social House closing, but apparently it has.

Back in January we told you that Barrio Tacos, Tequila, and Whiskey would be closing its location in Kalamazoo and relocating to the building at 248 Broadway in South Haven. We now know when it will open!

Barrio Tacos, Tequila, and Whiskey first opened in Tremont, Ohio, in 2012. Since then, the Mexican food chain has opened restaurants in seven states. Michigan locations include Traverse City, East Lansing, and downtown Grand Rapids.

At the restaurants, you can craft your own custom tacos choosing from a variety of sauces, toppings, cheese, and proteins like chorizo, pulled pork, spiced rubbed chicken, jalapeno lime chicken, braised short rib, tofu, and more. The menu also includes chips and queso, salsa, and guacamole, tacos, and bowls.

Barrio is set to open Wednesday March 13 at 9p.m. The owners say they'll be giving away free queso for a year to the first forty guests.
