Ozzfest may leave quite an impression on Japan next year. The longtime hard rock and metal festival turned a few heads earlier this year when it was announced that Slipknot and Black Sabbath would headline the two-night destination festival in Japan. Now comes word that four more heavy hitters have signed on to play.
Ever since a November 2008 car accident, Deftones bassist Chi Cheng has mostly been in a coma. In the meantime, the band has continued to write and tour with replacement bassist Sergio Vega. Last night, though, Deftones came closer to having Chi back than they've been in nearly four years, as the band invited Chi's son Gabe onstage to perform with them in San Francisco.
In an age where rock artists fall off the face of the earth regularly, The Deftones have stood the test of time. They are a band who has endured because of their willingness to continually evolve as artists and push the boundaries of musical reality. They are a band that loves to collaborate, working with such talented musicians as Maynard James Keenan of Tool and Serj Tankian from System of a Down, as well as countless others.
Deftones are inching closer to a new album, and have now revealed the artwork for their 'Koi No Yokan' collection (posted to the left). The visually intriguing cover, which they debuted at their website and Facebook pages, appears to be mirrored sections of a dark room, with only a dulled green entryway and glowing orange floor lights reflecting back.
Metal rockers Deftones took part in the Epicenter Festival in Irvine, Calif. this past weekend, performing Saturday night (September 22) at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater. The band played a brand new track called "Leathers" live for the very first time, which you can watch below.
