Before ‘The Walking Dead’ begins anew with Season 8, we look back on some of the series’ worst deaths and most ignominious ends over the first seven years.
There’s ample evidence of toxic fandom out there, and the Albuquerque homeowners of Breaking Bad have seen some of the worst of it. After one-too-many tourist invaders and pizzas to the roof, the owners have apparently erected a security fence to dissuade entitled fans.
Long before The Walking Dead had us sweating Negan’s first victim, fans were concerned how AMC might replicate the villain’s colorful language. We’ve seen alternate takes on DVD, but it seems AMC may finally allow Jeffrey Dean Morgan to let a few F-bombs drop in Season 8.
The Walking Dead finale kicking off of a major comic arc again raises the question of whether AMC’s adaptation might overtake Robert Kirkman’s comics in due course. Kirkman has denied that AMC might ever reveal his ideas early, as Game of Thrones dealt with, and now Kirkman insists neither he nor showrunners would allow the series to catch up.
AMC’s Walking Dead rarely strays too far off the beaten path of Robert Kirkman’s comics, as the recent Season 7 finale proved with the kickoff to “All Out War.” There’s plenty of immediate ground to cover in Season 8, but might the next run bring us to another major story shift from the books? The Walking Dead has had no shortage of controversy since the brain-bashing arrival of Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan, though the series may have inadvertently stoked racial tension as well. U.K. suppliers apparently pulled official merchandise over accusations of racism, though Morgan himself dismisses the controversy with “people are stupid.”
It’s a classic conundrum for serialized shows with child actors; younger characters invariably grow older than the story would suggest. The Walking Dead star Chandler Riggs has naturally aged seven years from its 2010 beginnings (compared with a relatively condensed timeline for the show), but even creator Robert Kirkman isn’t certain how old the character is in comics; let alone TV.
The Walking Dead hasn’t had much time for the major Saviors in its first two 2017 episodes, but that all changes with next Sunday’s “Hostiles and Calamities.” Not only are Dwight and the others finally catching up with Daryl’s escape, but Negan and his newest hostage are officially inbound.
‘The Walking Dead’ Season 7 picks up a “Rock in the Road” to ignite a rebellion against Negan, but is Rick’s change of heart worth all the wait? And what do we make of the mysterious new group holding Gabriel hostage? Find out in our full review!
We’re just over two weeks now from The Walking Dead Season 7's return, and whether or not you buy Andrew Lincoln’s passionate defense of the first half, Season 7B doesn’t appear to be wasting any time. See for yourself with a brand-new round of photos from February 12 premiere “Rock in the Road,” along with one of those ever-cryptic synopses.
