The 'Saw' franchise has been dead for a while now, but good news for fans of Jigsaw and his creepy little puppet: the original 'Saw' that started it all is heading back to theaters this October to celebrate its 10th anniversary.

It's been four years since 'Saw 3D,' the final chapter in the franchise, and while there have been rumblings of an eighth film from Lionsgate, it might still be a while before we return to the gruesome series that introduced us to the twisted minds of director James Wan and writer Leigh Whannell.

But this year marks the 10th anniversary of the original 'Saw' film -- a simpler time when it was just a couple of dudes locked in a room, being tormented by an unseen captor known as Jigsaw; a time before overly-elaborate traps and geysers of acid and labyrinths of barbed wire. Those were the days. So to celebrate the original 'Saw,' Lionsgate is re-releasing the film in theaters nationwide for one week only on Halloween, with select early screenings beginning on Thursday night, October 30.

'Saw' was the first film collaboration between director James Wan and writer Leigh Whannell, who went on to create 'Insidious.' Wan also directed 'The Conjuring,' and has directed next summer's 'Fast and Furious 7.' Whannell is making his directorial debut with 'Insidious 3,' which hits theaters in 2015.
