Ninja Theory's upcoming video game Hellblade will not only explore mental illness, but it will also feature a female protagonist who looks as real as possible.

In an era when many female video game characters have a few physical features "emphasized" *ahem*, Hellblade's game developers have recently detailed the amount of work they are putting into the game's main protagonist, Senua. Their goal: make her look as real as possible.

Through several different companies' work and techniques, including 3D scanning, body scanning, and a special device that helps capture the most minute facial movements, Ninja Theory has successfully modeled Senua after a physical trainer. While Senua is definitely quite muscular (as is the physical trainer), Tameem Antoniades, Hellblade's chief creator, asserts that the character's lifestyle and plot fits this body type.

Antoniades claims, "It’s very common for video game characters to have quite unrealistic, stylized proportions. But we felt in this case that sticking to the original shape of a human body, an actual human body, we would reach a level of believability that we would otherwise not attain."
