I love Grand Rapids and all it has to offer with local music, so I decided why not feature local bands here on wgrd.com! Todays featured Deadwood Stone, they answered a few questions for me below! Check them out, and if your in a local band and want to be featured then answer the same questions and email them along with a video to Jackie@wgrd.com, I don’t just feature anyone, so don’t suck and you’ll get the Jackie stamp of approval ;) Find me on facebook too, to follow all your favorite local bands, and GRD news by clicking HERE

Who are all the members of your band, and what do they play?
Chris Phillips - Vocals, Guitar
Dave Droski - Lead Guitar
Nate Bishop - Drums
Fred Droski - Bass Guitar

When did the band get together, and how?

Deadwood Stone formed in early 2009, when Chris, Nate, and Dave
(former band mates years ago) ran into each other around town and
decided to get back together and start a new band. Chris' friend Thad
Underhill was asked to throw down on bass guitar. Shortly after
getting back together to form this new band, we had 5 songs written,
and decided to put out an E.P. to help get gigs around town and get
our name out. Thad moved on from the band, and we decided to bring in
Dave's brother Fred to play bass. Dave and Fred have been jamming
together since they were kids. The fit was perfect and things went up
from there. We have just released our single "The Man" from our
upcoming full length album, and our first music video for it, which is
the video seen here.

How would you describe your music to someone?

Deadwood Stone has a no-nonsense approach to writing songs. Great
melodies combined with complex guitar riffs, catchy hooks, and
monstrous percussion make up what Deadwood Stone is all about. It’s a
straight-forward rocking band of four guys making music brewed in the
gut and shot from the hip.

Who are some of the bands that influence your music?
Lynyrd Skynyrd, Guns n' Roses, Megadeth, Muse, Metallica, Alice in
Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, The Rockit King, too many to list
really...

What other bands have your members been/are in?
Former bands include
Katalyst (Chris, Dave, and Nate), Albatross (Dave).

What other local bands would you recommend people check out?
The Legal Immigrants, Varsity Killers, Nathan Kalish and The Wildfire,
Burden of Ages, Bled Life, Uncommon Road, Holloway, Stone the Manic,
Flood the Desert, My Own Misery, Coldville, Combat Corduroy...just get
out and see a show!
