Grammys Snub Late Slayer Guitarist Jeff Hanneman During ‘In Memoriam’ Segment
As it does every year, the Grammy Awards paid tribute to the musicians who passed away over the past 12 months with an 'In Memoriam' segment toward the end of Sunday night's ceremony.
While we didn't expect the Grammys to mention every hard rock and metal musician who passed away, leaving Jeff Hanneman out of the segment is unforgivable. Not only was he the main songwriter in Slayer, he influenced generations of musicians to follow. And, in case the Grammy producers need a history lesson, Slayer actually won two Grammy Awards -- Best Metal Performance in 2007 for 'Eyes of the Insane' and again in 2008 for 'Final Six.'
While we don't need the Grammys to let us know how important musicians like Jeff Hanneman and Clive Burr were to the metal world, we still say "shame on you" to the Grammys for overlooking them in your 'In Memoriam' segment.
