Yesterday, July 17th, Governor Rick Snyder helped break ground on the Detroit side of the Gordie Howe International Bridge.  The bridge will be the third international crossing between Detroit and Windsor and will help relieve traffic jams on the Ambassador Bridge and the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel.

The Gordie Howe International Bridge is scheduled to be completed 2022 and will cost about $2.1 billion.  The cost will be split between Canada and Michigan.  Once completed, the Bridge will be the "longest cable-stayed bridge" in the nation.

The Detroit News had this to say about Governor Snyder's appearance at the groundbreaking:

"Every Michigander should thank every Canadian,"... Snyder said U.S-Canadian relations goes through "ups and downs," but the bridge will be an enduring symbol of two nation's partnership. - The Detroit News
