Meijer-97.9 WGRD Athlete of the Week: Rockford Boys’ Water Polo’s David Newberger

Rockford High School boys' water polo player David Newberger is this week's Meijer-97.9 WGRD Athlete of the Week.

Newberger excels athletically and academically, standing out on a team currently ranked No. 1 by the Michigan Water Polo Association with a 17-1 record after a 15-7 win Wednesday night over East Kentwood.

"David Newberger epitomizes the (term) student-athlete," Rockford Coach David McWatters said.

Monday night, A Day to Remember and Bring Me the Horizon hit the Deltaplex in Grand Rapids, bringing along Chiodos and Motionless in White for a big show on the Parks and Devastation tour!

A Day to Remember hit the stage with some really cool staging, of trees, rocks, a camp fire, and the band's faces on Mount Rushmore on a huge backdrop!

Bring Me The Horizon Rocked the Deltaplex in Grand Rapids on Monday Night

Monday night, A Day to Remember and Bring Me the Horizon hit the Deltaplex in Grand Rapids, bringing along Chiodos and Motionless in White for a big show on the Parks and Devastation tour!

Bring Me The Horizon has been riding high since the release of their Sempiternal album, and the huge songs, "Sleepwalking", and "Can You Feel My Heart".  Both of which they played at high volume last night!

The second band to hit the stage was Chiodos, and they didn't slow anything down for their set, cranking up the volume, and turning up the energy!

Kicking off the night, was Motionless in White, from Scranton, PA, rocked the Deltaplex.  I have to make the joke, since contrary to their name, they neither wore white, or stayed motionless for their set.

Taking Back Sunday Rocked The Orbit Room in Grand Rapids on September 12th

Taking Back Sunday and The Used hit The Orbit Room in Grand Rapids on Friday night, and the building got PACKED for the show!

Thanks to everyone who came out and rocked hard with The Used and Taking Back Sunday!

The Used got everyone moving, and even managed to create a Wall of Death on the tightly packed floor of The Orbit Room, getting the whole crowd ready for Taking Back Sunday.

Even though I've never been a huge Scorpions fan, though I do enjoy their music, I've somehow seen them a bunch of times in concert, and managed to meet them a couple of times.

Here's the first time I met them...sometime in the early 90's.  They always put of a great show, and sound fantastic, and they have always been really nice people to meet.

Watch The Black Keys Rock Grand Rapids from the September 7th Show

The Black Keys and Cage the Elephant rocked Grand Rapids last night at the Van Andel arena, in front of thousands of cheering people!  Thanks to all of you who came out and rocked with WGRD at the show!

The Black Keys hit the stage with a bigger show than I really expected, and they put on a fantastic performance!  They played a lot of songs, covering a lot of ground, and hitting a lot of older songs, that seemed to make all the die hard Black Keys fans happy.

Cage the Elephant took the stage first, and powered through a lot of high energy rock, including their newest hit, "Come a Little Closer', and the rocker, "Teeth", where the singer, Matt, not only did a stage dive into the crowd, but kept singing the song while surfing!

Wayland Rocked Grand Rapids at Yankee Springs Golf Course on Saturday Night

Wayland came back home for a series of shows this past week, culminating in a fantastic charity event at Yankee Springs Golf Course, to raise money for the Wayland High School music program on Saturday night!

The guys hit the stage with the same energy they always do, and the crowd gave it right back, singing along and having a great time all night, as Wayland ripped through a full set of songs.
