Perrin Brewing Co. in Comstock Park is now under the ownership of Oskar Blues, a brewing company in Colorado.

Perrin, a 3-year-old brewery 10 miles north of downtown Grand Rapids, announced the sale Friday, March 27.

WZZM-13 reports that the two companies worked together in December to create a special beer called Cornlaboration when the plan started to form.

According to WZZM-13, Oskar Blues marketing director Chad Melis says that Perrin already brews great beer, so the buyers hope to bring the brewery to the next level.

He also said the new ownership is not  going to try to change Perrin.

"At Oskar Blues we kind of joke that the pirates run the ship," Melis said. "There's no intention from us to go in from Colorado and change what Perrin is doing. The part that's engaging and very exciting for us to work with Perrin is who they are and what they bring to their community, and we're just going to help them do that and get to the next level."

The Grand Rapids Press/ MLive Media Group reports that brewery head Randy Perrin is leaving the company and Keith Klopcic, who left West Side Beer Distributing in January, is taking over as president.

Oskar Blues, founded in Lyons, Colo., in 1997, has been expanding rapidly in recent years and is known for pioneering the increasingly popular practice of canning craft beer.

According to The Grand Rapids Press/ MLive, Perrin brewery representatives say cans of the brewery's popular Grapefruit IPA are a possibility for distribution this summer.
