Watch This Moose Swim From Lake Superior To Lake Huron [Video]

I know what you're thinking, 'Wouldn't he have to swim through the Soo Locks to do that?'

And the answer is yes.

That's exactly what this moose was caught doing by some tourists this week in Sault Sainte Marie.

The moose jumped in at the Soo Locks near the Canadian side, and according to the video posted by Tourism Sault Ste. Marie on their Facebook page, the moose was lost and helped out a bit by the lock keeper who gave the moose an assist in order to help the poor guy out.

The Moose was a little lost so the thoughtful Canal team closed the west lock and lowered the Moose to the Huron side, and off it went to shallow water.

The moose in the area surrounding the Soo Locks will generally cross further downstream at the rapids, but at times those will be too fast for the big animals to handle, so they'll stay on one side or the other. It is very rare say operators at the locks to see one of the giant creatures jump in for a swim swim in the Locks, which were created to allow freighters to negotiate the 21-foot drop between Lake Superior down to Lake Huron.

By the way, don't be fooled by the giant beast's lack of grace, these guys are skillful swimmers. The Northern Ontario News reports:

Despite their size, moose are known to be powerful swimmers. According to Northern Ontario Travel, they can dive 20 feet underwater and stay underwater for up to 30 seconds.
