Michigan’s Most Picturesque Lighthouse Is Turning 150, Hosting Huge Celebration

The Tawas Point Lighthouse is one of the most unique lighthouses in Michigan, a bold claim considering Michigan has over 129 lighthouses around the state. Its backstory is unique, and while it no longer serves as a lighthouse, it gives Michiganders a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity unlike any other.

Now, the lighthouse in all its wonder is turning 150 years old, and to celebrate, the Michigan History Center, the DNR, and the Friends of Tawas Point Lighthouse and State Park are hosting a multi-day shindig for free.

Lake Tawas Point Lighthouse's 150th Anniversary

On August 7th and 8th, on Lake Huron, on an awesome two-day event known as Tawas Point Lighthouse - National Lighthouse Day celebration in Michigan's most underrated yet stunning points. There is a "special event" from 12 to 5 p.m. The 7th is National Lighthouse Day and will see free admission and fun activities around the lighthouse.

The 8th will feature a free concert with Lee Murdock, an acclaimed musician who specializes in merging Great Lakes history with songs. He plays both 6- and 12-string guitars, and his concert starts at 7 p.m.

The 150th celebration is a fun way to honor the lighthouse's history and the efforts of all the involved parties to keep this legendary lighthouse in prime condition.
