Picture this: you get out of the car after a long day of school, and your stomach starts to feel awful. You know what's coming next: that stomach bug everyone has finally reached you. You ask your mom to stop at the store and get you the essentials: cough drops, some ibuprofen, and a 2-liter bottle of Vernors.

Since 1866, Vernors has been Michigan's pop, synonymous with both sick days and Michigan. The Detroit Historical Society states it perfectly, "Vernor's and the City of Detroit grew together." Now, it's looking to celebrate that bond with the city that put the drink on the map for its 160th birthday, which is sure to cause all ale to break loose.

Venors' 160th Anniversary Celebration

For 160 years, Vernors has been bringing highly-carbonated ginger ale to much of the Midwest, and now it's time to celebrate at Riopelle Street in Eastern Market, Detroit, on June 14th. You'll get to meet the Vernor's Gnome, try some Vernor's Ice Cream, take a stroll through Vernor's vintage advertisements, and more. It's a full street shut down, with the festivities from 1-4 pm.

The only downside to this celebration is that it is in Detroit, a bit of a hike for us in West Michigan. However, if you're willing to make the trip, it sounds like there will be some pretty great activities to participate in.

Or you can buy a pack of Vernors and celebrate on your own. It's really up to you.
