It is nice to see the pretty colors of the fall but what we have learned in the fall of 2020 and 2021, COVID-19 likes to rear its ugly head. Like the flu, COVID-19 is still remaining to be a problem when cold and flu season begins.

In the fall of 2020, all the way through the winter of 2021, COVID-19 was a massive problem with cases going through the roof, but at that time not as many people had been vaccinated.

The Omicron variant was spreading in the summer of 2021, but when the fall hit is when this variant really got a hold of Michigan during the cold and flu season. Luckily because of vaccinations and booster shots, it quickly tapered off by mid-winter.

What all this means is that COVID-19 has not gone away at all and will more than likely be a problem again during the fall and winter of 2022.

Michigan State University is not taking any chances with the cold and flu season and will keep its vaccine and booster mandate for the entire 2022/23 school year.

According to WOOD, MSU President Samuel L. Stanley announced that the vaccine and booster mandate will apply to all students, faculty, and staff for the academic year. Some of the other mandates the school has in place will be relaxed.

Face coverings for MSU will be lifted before the end of the 2021/22 academic year on May 16.

It will be interesting to see what other colleges like the University of Michigan, Western Michigan University, Grand Valley State University, and Ferris State University will handle their mandates this fall.
