Everyone knows that driving away when a police officer is attempting to pull you over is not smart and can land you in even hotter water. But in this case, there may have been an exception made after an officer in Melvindale pulled over a speeding man, only to discover his wife was in labor, with the baby already on the way.

It's a worst-case scenario for any new parent, having to give birth to their child in the front seat of a truck. It's also a worst-case scenario for a young police officer who has never delivered a baby before. What could have been a perfect storm turned into a miracle when the officer's brother, a police dispatcher, came on the line and walked the officer through the birth.

Melvindale Police's Surprise Traffic Stop

It all started around 2 a.m. on Saturday, according to CBS News. Officers spotted a truck speeding down the road, prompting them to chase after it. Upon approaching the window, the Senior Officer Corporal Mohamed Hachem realized the woman in the passenger seat, Maria, was in active labor. The officers quickly concluded the baby needed to be delivered then and there.

With emergency services too far away, Officer Hachem called dispatch to request instructions in delivering the baby...and was immediately comforted when he recognized the voice on the other line - his younger brother, who worked for the dispatch center.

Officer Hachem reclined Maria's passenger seat, and together, the Hachems worked to deliver the little girl, one over the phone, the other following instructions. Officer Hachem successfully delivered the baby girl, and paramedics transported the mother and daughter, Galilea, to the hospital. The officer eventually joined the new family at the hospital for a sweet family photo.

The entire ordeal lasted only five minutes, but I'm sure it felt like a lifetime for everyone involved. Kudos to the officers involved, and congrats to the new family!
