Two Michigan Ski Resorts Battle to Be Best in the Nation

To get you pumped for the slopes, two Michigan ski destinations are once again in the running for national recognition. Last year, both made the top ten in their categories. Now the question is, can we help them reach number one in 2025?

USA Today and 10Best have called on readers to vote for the country’s best cross-country ski resort and overall ski resort. A panel of experts narrowed the field to twenty in each category, and now it’s up to the public to decide the top ten.

ABR Trails: A Nordic Skiing Destination

ABR Ski Trails in Ironwood is up for best cross-country ski resort. Nestled in Michigan’s Big Snow Country, ABR has been a winter favorite for more than 30 years.

What started in 1995 as a small, family-run operation with just eight miles of trails has grown into a 1,100-acre Nordic skiing center with more than 60 miles of cross-country paths and 10 miles of snowshoe trails. The scenic terrain along the Montreal River offers options for classic striding, skate skiing, snowshoeing, and even dog-pulled skijoring.

Mount Bohemia: Rugged Powder and Adventure

Mount Bohemia in Lac La Belle is competing for best overall ski resort. Located in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, it’s where serious skiers and riders chase powder and adventure.

With more than 270 inches of lake-effect snow each year, Bohemia boasts the longest runs and the biggest vertical drop in the Midwest at 900 feet. After a day on the mountain, visitors can relax at the on-site Nordic spa, which includes hot tubs, a steam cabin, and even a cold plunge for the daring.
