18 years ago...18 freakin' years ago! This juggernaut of awesomeness was unveiled to the masses. I remember this being the last video game console I received with a childish amount of excitement, cause I was a kid. Hard to believe that the Nintendo 64 is 18 years old.

I can remember receiving this game console like it was yesterday. However, before I owned it, my parents allowed us to go rent the game console before we actually purchased it. The biggest thing I remember is sitting in formal living room (yea, we had one of those) and playing it on the TV in there. Specifically the part where I was trying to grab the star at the end of the eel. Sadly, we had to return it eventually.

Then the big day came, where we picked up a Nintendo 64. This was the first console that we ever bought that didn't come with a game right away! We bought it at the Alpine Target along with a Black Controller.

Nintendo 64 launched major titles like Super Mario 64, Donkey Kong 64, Banjo & Kazooie, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, and plenty more! It was also the first true 64-bit console and pioneered the now staple on your controller, the analog stick. It was in direct competition with Sony's PSX. Sony won the console war in this generation, but Nintendo 64 continues to be a favorite among retro-gamers.

Why does this system matter to me so much? It holds my favorite video game of all time! The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
