Owning Property in Michigan

I grew up on seven acres in Lapeer County when I was a kid. Back then, I wanted nothing more than to move away and find a place in the city. It didn't matter the city, I just didn't want to live in the country. Now that I'm older and wiser (sort of), all I want is to find some property way out in the country. The country, that's where I want to be.

I was recently looking at available property in the Upper Peninsula and it got me thinking. Who owns the most land in Michigan? I wondered if it was one person or a large company. Turns out, it's a company.

Who Owns More Land Than Anyone Else in Michigan?

According to World Population Review, Plum Creek, a lumber company that merged with Weyerhaeuser Company, was the largest private landowner in Michigan after purchasing a whopping 650,000 acres in the Upper Peninsula in 2005.

Weyerhaeuser purchased Plum Creek back in 2015 for over $8 Billion so technically that would make Weyerhaeuser the largest private landowner in Michigan.
