I grew up on seven acres in Lapeer County when I was a kid. Back then, I wanted nothing more than to move away and find a place in the city. According to World Population Review, Plum Creek, a lumber company that merged with Weyerhaeuser Company, was the largest private landowner in Michigan after purchasing a whopping 650,000 acres in the Upper Peninsula in 2005.

Weyerhaeuser purchased Plum Creek back in 2015 for over $8 Billion so technically that would make Weyerhaeuser the largest private landowner in Michigan.

With the merger of Weyerhaeuser and Plum Creek, the company now owns more than 13 million acres of diverse, productive forests in the United States.
