Love Bubble Tea? Great news! Also known as Boba Tea - there's a new spot in town to get it!

Theon Boba Tea & Cafe Momo House is now open at 4445 Breton Rd SE Suite C (near Horrocks) in Grand Rapids. The eatery serves Nepalese food.

What is Boba?

If you're not familiar, Boba is a tea-based drink that originated in Taiwan in the early 1980s. Boba is technically the tapioca pearls within the beverage.

According to Delish,

The tapioca pearls are made from tapioca or cassava starch (so they are gluten-free) and formed into small spheres. To sweetened them, they are often simmered in sugary syrup. From there, they can be added to a base, often a milk tea (tea combined with either powdered or fresh milk and sometimes a sugary syrup), but also green or black tea, coffee, a slushie, or a smoothie to become bubble tea.

Theon Cafe refers to it as "Boba Milk Tea", and they appear to serve a variety of flavors including Taro, Jasmine, Strawberry, Thai, Mango, Honeydew, Matcha, and Black Tea.

What is Momo?

A popular street food in Nepal, Momo is a dumpling made of all-purpose flour and filled with either meat or vegetables.

The history of momo in Nepal dates back to as early as the fourteenth century. Momo was initially a Newari food in the Katmandu valley. It was later introduced to Tibet, China and as far away as Korea & Japan by a Nepalese princess who was married to a Tibetan king in the late fifteenth century. In Newari, one of Nepal’s oldest languages, ‘mome’ means cooking by steaming. ‘Momo’ is to Nepal what pizza is to Italy, and is available in every restaurant, hotel and household of Katmandu and other parts of Nepal. Momo is like Mount Everest – one of the symbols of Nepal.
