CNN reports that there was smoke coming from one of the subway cars where people were fleeing for their lives. Blood was seen on the floor as well as bloodied passengers on the subway and rail platform.

The New York Times is reporting that police believe the gunman set off a smoke device before randomly shooting at victims on the subway.

So far the attack appears to be random, and the Washington Post reports that authorities have not figured out a motive, but the shooting was definitely planned seeing how the gunman wore a gas mask and a smoke device was set off prior to the shooting with other smoke devices being found at the scene.

No subway employees were hurt by the gunfire.

According to WZZM, the incident happened on a subway line that runs through a south Brooklyn neighborhood that is predominantly home to Asian and Hispanic communities.
