People are Returning the Pets They Adopted During the Pandemic at an “Alarming Rate”
2020 saw a huge increase in pet adoptions since more people were stuck at home and some felt lonely... a furry companion was exactly what they needed. But unfortunately, as we start to go back to a more normal life, that doesn't include animals as a part of it.
Unleashed Love Pet Rescue in Comstock Park spoke with WOOD-TV about the issue, and that they are starting to experience people returning the animals they adopted at an "alarming rate." Normally, they get about 1-5 owner surrenders over a six-month period. Now, they're getting five or six in a week!
The rescue's treasurer told WOOD-TV he thinks it has to do with people going back to work.
...they think ‘my dog is going to be home for eight hours a day, they’re not going to be happy. People not wanting to work with trainers or behaviorists.
Due to the number of pet returns, Unleashed Love is planning on holding an adoption event this Sunday from 11a-2p at Tractor Supply on Alpine Ave NW in Comstock Park.
You can see a list of their adoptable animals here and hopefully one will catch your love and attention so you can give them a FOREVER home that animals deserve.
Unleashed Love posted pictures of the dogs you can expect to see at Sunday's event and they are all adorable!
More info about the adoption event is on their Facebook event page.
