After three months of construction, Pearl Street at U.S. 131 will reopen Sunday, MLive Media Group/ The Grand Rapids Press reports.

Work began in May at Pearl and Mount Vernon Avenue on the west side of U.S. 131 and has now moved to the east side of the overpass between Scribner and the Grand River.

The $1.3 million dollar project included work on pavement, drainage systems, street lights, sidewalks, and ramps.

City spokesperson Steve Guitar said in a release

"I know that the thousands of drivers who traverse this section of Grand Rapids will really appreciate the smoothness of the newly constructed roadway. We thank the businesses and museums in the area for their patience as we enhanced Pearl. We also thank the thousands of commuters and pedestrians inconvenienced during the construction period."

Next year the city is planning streetscape improvements on the same stretch of Pearl that will include completing the remaining sidewalk work and installing street trees, seating, lighting, and planters.

Pearl Street remains closed to through traffic until construction on the current project ends this Sunday, August 9.
