Massive 26-Foot-Tall Sculpture Coming To Frederick Meijer Gardens
Something BIG is coming to Frederick Meijer Gardens this autumn!
As a longtime Grand Rapids resident, I'm so glad we have Frederick Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park! Hosting impressive nature and art exhibits year-round, Meijer Gardens was recently voted the No. 1 sculpture park in America (again!). Of course, there's the Summer Concert series as well. 👇Check out the lineup below!👇
Frederick Meijer Gardens is welcoming a massive 26-foot-tall sculpture soon — and it will be part of its permanent collection.

Acclaimed artist Nick Cave has created the huge bronze sculpture, Amalgam (Origin). It represents the evolution of his Soundsuits Collection.
The first piece he created in Soundsuits was in 1992 in response to the beating of Rodney King by police. According to Frederick Meijer Gardens,
Soundsuits were conceived as protective armor, concealing the wearer’s race, gender and class to challenge viewers to look beyond surface judgments.

Amalgam (Origin) will be Cave's first permanent installation in Michigan. It originally debuted at the Jack Shainman Gallery in New York City. Frederick Meijer Gardens shares,
The piece embodies themes of transformation, resilience, and connection to nature, making it a powerful and inspiring addition to the region’s cultural landscape.
You'll be able to find Amalgam (Origin) near the North Path by The Richard & Helen DeVos Japanese Garden and Michigan’s Farm Garden.
