New Grocery Store Planned For Downtown Grand Rapids
Downtown Grand Rapids could be getting a new grocery store!
Wood TV 8 reports that plans for CWD's redeveloment of the Fifth Third Center on Lyon St. NW are expected to include a new concept from Dollar General, called DGX.
Dollar General describes DGX as "a new, convenient and trendy retail option" for metropolitan city centers:
DGX stores offer a smaller retail footprint with a curated assortment of grab-and-go salads and sandwiches, home cleaning supplies, an expanded selection of health and beauty products, home décor, electronics, seasonal products, pet supplies, candies and snacks, paper products and more—all at everyday low prices that Dollar General is known for.
They say that some DGX locations will also offer an assortment of fresh fruits and vegetables and coffee stations.
According to Wood TV 8, city permit records show plans for a 4,827-square-foot DGX store at 111 Lyon St. NW. Dollar General confirmed to Wood TV 8 they are “highly interested” in opening a DGX there and expect to make a make a final decision in the coming weeks.
If all goes as planned, the store could open as early as fall 2021.
Construction is ongoing at the Fifth Third Center and expected to be completed by spring. Another business planned for the building is a new restaurant, West Michigan's first Texas de Brazil Steakhouse.
