Firearm deer season in Michigan begins on November 15 every year, but that could soon change if one lawmaker has his way.

Representative Gary Howell (Lapeer County) introduced a bill on September 20, asking the state to change the opening day of firearm season from November 15 to the Saturday closest to the 15th.

The season would still run for 16 days.

Rep. Howell says that the change will allow for those who are unable to take time off of work during the week to still enjoy opening day. This would also affect certain school districts throughout the state who give students opening day off.
