When you hear about a hunter being shot in Michigan, it’s often during firearm deer season. But with archery season now underway, one hunter was shot while sitting in his blind by someone using a gun.
Hunting Accident Statistics in Michigan

Hunting has been around for as long as people can remember, but the way we hunt has changed dramatically over time. From setting traps to using spears, knives, bows and arrows, and firearms, the tools may have evolved, but one thing has stayed the same: the pursuit of wild game.

Michigan typically records fewer than 10 hunting-related shooting incidents in a given year, although the total can vary. The number of accidents has declined significantly over the years, especially since the 1970s and 1980s, when mandatory hunter safety education and blaze-orange clothing requirements were introduced. While hunting-related fatalities are rare, sadly, they still happen across the state.
