Who steals a state park sign? Seriously, who looks at a piece of Upper Peninsula history, anchored into one of the most beautiful places on Earth, and thinks, "Yeah, that belongs in my basement"? I find it completely nuts. But then again, I’m not some dummy attempting to pull a "prank" for clout on social media.

The Iconic Porkies Sign Is Missing

The victim of this bizarre theft is the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park... the Porkies. Tucked away in Ontonagon County in the western U.P., it’s 60,000 acres of ancient forest, roaring waterfalls, Lake Superior shoreline, and countless streams and trails.

That iconic sign welcoming visitors to the park is a total landmark! Generations of Michigan families, hikers, and road-trippers have pulled over right at the entrance to snap a photo, marking the start of a memory. By dragging it off, whoever did this didn't just pull a stupid stunt, they ruined that ritual for everyone else pulling up to the park soon.

And I have to think, this doesn't seem like an impulsive move. These signs are heavy wood, mounted in stone to withstand ruthless Yooper winters. It's not just something you yank off and toss in a backpack.

To me, that points to multiple people being involved. Seems like it would take a truck, tools, and deliberate effort between Saturday night, October 3 and early Sunday morning to pull this off.

Park Staff Want the Sign Back

The Porkies staff posted a simple plea: bring it back, no questions asked. Law enforcement is already on it, but honestly, whoever took it just needs to do the right thing and put it back.
