The Michigan State Police carry out raids of drug houses all the time but now and then they find something they did not expect like in this case an alligator.
What Determines if The Michigan State Police Can Raid Your House?
The good news is that the Michigan State Police don't randomly raid a home they feel looks a little shady to try and find something wrong to arrest the homeowner or renter. There is a process the MSP, sheriff departments, and local police departments do across Michigan.

An investigation needs to have taken place to develop "probable cause" that evidence of a crime or contraband will be found inside the location. Police need to give the evidence to a prosecutor to decide whether there is enough evidence to take to a judge to see if a warrant can be granted. If the judge signs off, a warrant is issued then the MSP can carry it out.

MSP Raid House to Find Drugs, Guns, and an Alligator?
Recently in Ecorse, Michigan, the Michigan State Police executed a search warrant with members of the Metro Narcotics Enforcement Team into a suspected drug dealer's home.
According to WOOD, the MNET raided a home in Detroit's Downriver region and located a stache of drugs and guns which would be typical in most raids of this type.
The big surprise was police officers found an alligator during the raid. The suspect was arrested and the alligator was taken to a local animal shelter.
