How Long Will It Take Santa To Cross Michigan?
As the great Bruce Springsteen says nearly every year, "Santa Claus is coming to town". Like he does every year, Santa and his trusty reindeer travel across the globe delivering presents to all the good boys and girls in a single night.
How he does it, I'm not sure, but you know I keep my eyes glued to Santa Tracker to see when he's flying over me. Now that I'm older and I make semi-annual trips up to the UP, I only really care about how fast he can travel from the tippy top of Michigan to the southernmost point...mostly because I'm jealous that it doesn't take him 8 hours.

Santa's Ideal Route
Considering how much of a time constraint Santa is under, he has to take the most efficient route possible. The folks over at Lufthansa Systems, a subsidiary of Lufthansa Airlines whose entire business is air travel, claim the best route for Santa to travel the globe is:
Europe -> Middle East -> Russia -> Asia -> Africa -> North America - South America -> Papua New Guinea -> and Australia -> Arabian Peninsula.
Michigan's Northern and Southernmost Points
Whether Santa comes from the southern or northernmost point, the distance will be the same across Michigan. The southernmost point in Michigan is at the Michigan-Indiana-Ohio tripoint where the borders of the three states meet. East of this point is Morenci, which is the southern town.
Meanwhile, the most northern point is Copper Harbor in the Keweenaw Peninsula at the tip of Michigan's upper peninsula. So, as a very rough estimate, Santa will have to travel 426.2 miles through Michigan. Thankfully, Santa travels at 2,924,099.5 mph so he'll arrive in no time.
