Once getting a job at the Post Office was highly sought after because of the wages, benefits, and job security. After years of cuts and overloading remaining workers that remain, getting a job with the USPS isn’t what it once was.

A national plan was announced in March 2025 to reduce the workforce by 10,000 jobs through a voluntary early retirement incentive program. While a specific number for Michigan was not detailed, workers have expressed concerns about job security and service delivery.

According to WOOD TV, officials are investigating the death of a U.S. Postal Service employee who was found dead inside a mail handling machine this past Saturday.

A USPS employee in his 30s was working at a distribution center in Allen Park, Michigan, on Saturday when his wife notified his work that he had never come home. Authorities say the man was dead between six and eight hours before police arrived at the scene.

Currently, authorities say they believe the death was an accident, but are still continuing to investigate.
