
Wild Murder Spree in 3 Locations in Northern Michigan
A man in northern Michigan allegedly killed five people at three separate locations. A manhunt followed that ended the suspect dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The murders of five people in Missaukee County, Michigan, remain under investigation as police work to determine what allegedly led Chad Hickman to kill five people, at three separate locations on Friday, August 14. The tragic series of events began around 11:40 a.m. with a report of a shooting.

The manhunt ended when Michigan State Police troopers finding Hickman’s body in a wooded area alongside a 29-year-old female victim. Investigators have not yet determined a motive for the homicides.

Three Northern Michigan Locations Linked to Murder Spree

According to MLive, Chad Hickman traveled to South LaChance Road in Lake Township, where he allegedly killed 45-year-old Shane McGowan, 40-year-old Amanda Everitt and her 16-year-old son, Eric. Amanda’s 13-year-old daughter, Bella, was shot four times but survived and called 911, identifying Hickman as the alleged shooter. Bella remains in stable condition at a Grand Rapids hospital.
It remains unclear why Hickman allegedly targeted his childhood friend McGowan, Everitt and her children.

Hickman is also accused of shooting a 53-year-old man in Missaukee County. According to neighbors, the victim was found in Hickman's home. Police have not yet released the man’s identity.

Police and K-9 units searched the wooded area Hickman ran to after fleeing the scene and later found dead from a self-inflicted wound after allegedly shooting a 29-year-old woman victim whose identity is still being withheld.
