Whenever I'm talking to friends from out of state, they're always surprised by our speed limits. Michigan's usual 70 mph speed limit ranks on the higher end of the speed limits around the US, and in some parts, the limit is 75. Of course, that's the official speed limit. Anyone from around here knows that even if you're in the fast lane going 75, that's considered slow. 85 or nothing (though the police don't see it that way).

Driving this fast is considered dangerous to you and others around you, but speeding cars is the most dangerous for construction workers. Sadly, there has been an uptick in construction zone casualties, and to curb speeding in these areas, Michigan could see extra enforcement measures added soon.

Some residents are against the idea of speed cameras being implemented, considering it overreaching, but most are in agreeance that "something needs to change." It's important to note these cameras would only be in construction zones and target drivers going over 10 mph. The current law requires officers to catch drivers in the act of speeding in these zones, but enforcement during the zones can be difficult.
