Michigan Diver Finds Message In Bottle, Returns It To Writer’s Daughter

It wasn't quite 'A SOS to the world', like Sting wrote, but it was from 1926, and it turns out, it didn't get far.

Jennifer Dowker was cleaning the windows of her glass bottom boat, The Yankee Sunshine, in the Cheboygan River last week when she found a small bottle on the river bottom.

“I spotted that green bottle on the top of a fish bed, so I said ‘oh that looks cool’, so I reached down and grabbed it and noticed there was paper in it,” Dowker told 9&10 News. “So immediately, I was like ‘alright this is great’.”

When she brought it to the surface she noticed a small note in the bottle that read:

"Will the person who finds this bottle return this paper to George Morrow, Cheboygan, Michigan and tell where it was found. November 1926."

She posted her find on her family business, Nautical North Family Adventures, Facebook page, and wondered if anyone knew or was related to George so she could bring the note back home to him.

It didn't take long before she was contacted by people who told her that George's daughter, Michelle Primeau, was alive and still living in Farmington Hills in the Detroit area.

So they got a hold of her, and did a Zoom call, where Michelle revealed it would be just like her dad to do something like that.

“(The note) was a total shock, but knowing my dad, he would always do little things... like that...When we were building our basement he was putting up the paneling and he put a note behind that."

So far, no one has reported finding THAT note.

As for Michelle, she told Jennifer she recognized her dad's handwriting. George, by the way, passed away in 1995. Michelle says having this thing go down on Father's Day weekend was a wonderful trip down memory lane for her and her family.

The note, meanwhile, will be on display on the Yankee Sunrise, so if you're ever up in Cheboygan, you can go for a beautiful cruise and see the note.
