It’s not just guns and knives that may be classified as weapons under Michigan law. Items such as blackjacks, brass knuckles, sandbags, sand clubs, slingshots, and throwing stars can also fall into this category, along with other restricted objects like billy clubs, tasers or stun guns, and certain types of batons.

Axes, chainsaws, drills, sledgehammers, and shovels are legal to own in Michigan, but they can be classified as dangerous or “deadly weapons” if they’re carried or used with the intent to harm someone. If concealed on a person or in a vehicle with unlawful intent, these otherwise ordinary tools may be treated as prohibited weapons under the law.
