Meijer May Be Best Option For COVID-19 Vaccine

Meijer may be your best bet if you are looking to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

According to WZZM, Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced Wednesday that Meijer has been chosen by the state as the initial pharmacy partner to help administer the COVID-19 vaccine to Michiganders.

Right now you must be at least 65 years of age or older to get the vaccine which Meijer is launching next week in Wayne County. Meijer will have more locations to administer the vaccine once the state gets more doses.

The goal is to vaccinate 70% of Michigan's population by the end of this year and Meijer will be a big part of the process with 120 pharmacies that are statewide.

WOOD reported that Meijer President & CEO Rick Keyes said,

We are proud to be chosen by the State of Michigan as a partner to help administer these critical vaccines and we look forward to our expanded role in helping communities throughout the Midwest defeat this pandemic.

In order to get vaccinated you have to register to basically get in line. There are two ways you can register:

With Michigan having three phases of vaccinations, you will need to know which one you fall into before you register. Here is a description of each phase of vaccination:

1 A - If you work in the healthcare industry with direct or indirect contact with patients or infectious materials. Also residents that are in long term care facilities.

1 B - If you are 65 years of a age or older as well as frontline essential workers.

1 C - If you are 16 years of age or older and of high risk if you contract COVID-19. Other essential workers who are part of safety and protection during COVID-19 response.

2 - Basically the rest of us ages 16 years of age or older.

Once you answer which category you fall in during the questioning from Meijer, the system they have in place will notify you when a date is available for you to get the vaccine.
