Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan took to Facebook yesterday to update fans on the highly anticipated new album.

Nine years since their last release, the new album is the follow-up to 2006's 10,000 Days.

Keenan says his bandmates are making progress on writing the upcoming album and he will begin writing melodies and content "soon".

Earlier in February, Motorhead's Mikkey Dee gave hope to Tool fans that a new record was in the works. He posted a video to Tool guitarist Adam Jones‘ Facebook page, revealing that Motorhead was in the studio and that the Tool guys were recording at one of the studio’s other rooms.

According to Loudwire, last year Jones revealed that part of the hold up with getting out a new album was a law suite that was costing Tool millions of dollars.
In 2007 an associate of Jones claimed that Tool had used his artwork without giving him credit. The lawsuit filed from that got more complicated when an insurance company Tool hired for the band’s defense also filed a suit against Tool over “technicalities regarding the case.”
Eight years later, Tool still find themselves wrapped up in litigation with the insurance company. The case was set to go to trial in January.  Little has been revealed about the current proceedings.

"The whole thing is really depressing," drummer Danny Carey told Rolling Stone, "The bad thing is it's really time consuming. As we've gotten older and our priorities have changed, it's hard to get the band on a good, solid schedule as it is. People have kids now. And there's lots of other things that pop up. To throw this into the mix, it makes everything that much worse and stresses people out."

"And it's costing millions and millions and millions of dollars to defend us," Jones added "And the fans are all going, 'We want a new Tool album. What the f---?' And you don't want to pull people into your problems, because they don't understand."
