Maps Show Exact Areas to Be Sprayed for Mosquitoes in Michigan

Parts of 14 counties in Michigan, including Kent county, will be sprayed for Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) beginning as soon as today. See maps that show exactly which areas will receive aerial treatment for mosquitoes.

On Friday, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and 12 local health departments announced the plans for aerial spraying. Spraying is to be done by low-flying aircraft beginning in the early evening and continuing up until 4:30 a.m. the next day.

Aerial spraying was set to begin Sunday night into Monday morning, but the first night of treatment was postponed due to the weather. Keep up-to-date on aerial spraying plans and the EEE outbreak.

This year, the number of human cases of EEE in Michigan are equal to the total number of cases in the last ten years combined. As of September 27, there have been nine human cases in six counties including Kalamazoo, Berrien, Barry, Cass, Calhoun, and Van Buren. Three of those cases resulted in death. EEE has also been identified in 27 animals in 13 different counties including Barry, Berrien, Calhoun, Cass, Genesee, Jackson, Kalamazoo, Kent, Lapeer, Montcalm, Newaygo, St. Joseph and Van Buren.
