Author and Podcaster Malcolm Gladwell Visited Grand Rapids and Loved It
Sure, his recent appearance in Grand Rapids sold out - but that's not the only reason journalist, podcast host, and author Malcolm Gladwell loves the city!
Gladwell visited Grand Rapids in September to help kick off Tech Week, a multi-day collection of events to showcase the region's vibrant tech community. His keynote speech and Q&A at GLC Live at 20 Monroe September 18 sold out.
If you're not familiar with Gladwell's work, he has written seven books to date, including The Tipping Point, Outliers, What the Dog Saw, and most recently, Talking to Strangers.
Gladwell is also a staff writer for The New Yorker and co-founder of Pushkin Industries, an audio content company that produces the podcasts Revisionist History, which reconsiders things both overlooked and misunderstood, and Broken Record, where he, Rick Rubin, and Bruce Headlam interview musicians across a wide range of genres
It sure sounds like his visit to Grand Rapids left a lasting impact, as he gave GR a shoutout on his podcast.
In talking about his travels, Gladwell says,
I've been to Manilla, Hong Kong, Las Vegas, Washington DC, Detroit, and Grand Rapids in just the last month. And if you're wondering, my favorite of all those places - Grand Rapids. Love Grand Rapids. Why doesn't everyone live in Grand Rapids?
Well, we have to say - we agree! And you're welcome back any time, sir!
As a longtime listener of Revisionist History, I'm sad I missed him in September. Next time, Mr. Gladwell!
