Getting pulled over is the worst. All of the sudden you see flashing lights behind you. Hear the siren. Oh crap, right?

Well, some drivers in Lowell had quite a different experience with traffic stops recently.

Police in Lowell pulled people over... and then gave them presents? If it sounds too good to be true, like one of those made-for-TV Christmas movies-- it isn't! This really happened in Lowell!

Tuesday morning, the City of Lowell posted a video to YouTube. In it, we see Lowell Police Officer, Scot VanSolkema, pulling over drivers for minor violations-- things police normally don't stop people for.

The officer chats up the driver, finding out what the person wants for Christmas (most talked about presents for their spouses or children). All the while, a team is listening in at a nearby Meijer, picking out and wrapping the gifts.

When the officer returns to the car, instead of getting a ticket, the driver gets the gifts!

The surprised drivers' reactions are amazing! I pretty much dare anyone to watch the video and not feel the holiday spirit. It's impossible.

According to WZZM-13, the video was filmed in late November by Up TV, a Christian-based television network. Up TV had approached the Lowell Police Department and paid for all of the gifts as a part of their Uplift Someone Christmas Initiative.

Lowell Police Chief Steve Bukala says in the video,

"Most of the contact the police officers have with the general public is on a traffic stop and you can find a lot out about that person in that 10 to 15 minute window, whether they're having a good day, a bad day, or a horrible day. And then we got this idea: what if we could change that person's day in real time? What if we could change that person's day right now?"

What an awesome idea! And, in case you were wondering, none of the drivers were issued tickets.
