The Kellogg Company has now announced that their popular Honey Smacks cereal would be returning to store shelves after they were pulled due to a salmonella outbreak.

The Battle Creek based corporation says Monday that Honey Smacks will return to market in "limited quantities" starting in November. They also say that the cereal will have a "simpler, updated recipe" with the same taste customers are used to.

Kellogg's says that production of Honey Smacks has now been moved to a "trusted and tested Kellogg-owned facility that has been reliably producing the cereal for decades", after they voluntarily recalled all of the cereal. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in June announced an advisory, first for just select Honey Smacks products, and then all Honey Smacks, after several people reported getting sick with salmonella.

The CDC surveyed people who were sick, and 77% reported eating cold cereal, and more people saying that they ate Honey Smacks than any other food item.

Salmonella is a bacteria that can cause symptoms of diarrhea, fever, and cramping, and lasts for a few days. Most people should recover without treatment, but children, the elderly, and those with weak immune systems can face more severe illness.
