Kalamazoo Couple Finds Hidden Treasure In Ceiling During Kitchen Renovations
It's like something out of a movie. There are numerous stories about people discovering a treasure map or a family heirloom in their grandparents' attic, which leads to a grand adventure. Well, what happened to this couple in Kalamazoo recently was no work of fiction, but it has led to a remarkable story.

Imagine you've moved into your first house together and are doing some run-of-the-mill construction on the kitchen, knocking down a wall to create extra space. Usually, people don't find century-old coins, maps, newspapers, and more tucked between the wall and the ceiling, but that's precisely what happened for Alayna Pletcher.
Pletcher Finds Treasure In Her Wall
Upon ripping the wall out of their kitchen, the Pletchers realized there were items in the space between the wall studs. The gap contained boxes of old coins, such as buffalo coins and cash, as well as maps, drawings, floral prints, scrolls, newspapers, and more. This led Alayna to start a "Treasure Hunters" series on her TikTok.
They recently got the old coins appraised, and while the appraisers said there wasn't anything exceptionally valuable, they plan to get multiple people to appraise it.
However, the most intriguing find among all this is a massive 100-year centennial edition of the Kalamazoo Gazette from 1937, containing newspaper printings and stories from the 1800s and early 1900s.
Since the initial discovery, Alayna has posted a Q&A in the comment section, answering the most common questions. She has confirmed that they are in touch with the previous owners of the house, and that the previous owners' parents built the house, meaning the previous owners' parents placed all the fixtures in the walls.

The house was formerly a hoarder house, so finding things in the walls wasn't as shocking to them as it would be for other people. The Pletchers managed to find a hidden door above the space where they unearthed the wall items, indicating that there was a dedicated area for the ceiling items and not just shoved in haphazardly.
Either way, this is a fascinating discovery of some ancient items. The original TikTok showcasing the discovery has garnered over 7.5 million views, and the entire series has surpassed 9 million views.
