With Christmas not that far away, maybe you are thinking of choosing your Christmas tree, or, maybe not. After all it's not even October.

But, for cities, states and the nation, you do have to think about choosing a tree early enough to find just the right one and grab it.

Here in Grand Rapids we have our official Christmas tree that that will be in Rosa Parks Circle downtown.

We all follow New York City's tree at Rockefeller Center, and the national tree in Washington D.C. But what about Michigan?

Michigan's official Christmas tree has already been chosen and it is a dandy.

How Do We Get An Official Tree?

This tree was donated by the Larry Riccio family in Iron Mountain in the Upper Peninsula. It will come down to Lansing on Saturday, November 7 and the decorating will begin.

The Riccio family said:

"It is pretty cool to be able to say that your tree is the state Christmas tree. When we first bought our house in 1986, the tree was quite large but now it has outgrown the property. Our family is excited and honored to donate this year’s tree.”

Fox17 said this is the second tree from Iron Mountain and 26th from Michigan's Upper Peninsula to be chosen as the official tree in the past 40 years.

So, how do you handle a 60-foot Christmas tree? Tie it down on top of your car and drive it down state?

Hardly!

The Michigan Association of Timbermen, the Great Lakes Timber Professionals Association, and the Michigan Department of Technology will cut it down on Thursday, Nov. 5 and transported to the Capitol.

Merry Christmas!
