We are fortunate to have exceptional air travel right at our finger tips in West Michigan.

The Gerald R. Ford International Airport is a regional hub ranked as the best small airport in the country, which continues to to be one of the easiest airports to fly in and out of. It's getting better every day.

That certainly seems true as they celebrated 4.3 millions passengers who flew through the airport in 2025, surpassing their annual passenger record last year of 4 million guests.

Fox17 reported that with eight major airlines, Delta, United, Southwest, Allegiant, American and others, the Ford International Airport is able to offer world class service.

There has been, and continues to be, major growth in West Michigan. That actually would not be possible without adequate air service the Ford is able to provide.

The addition to concourse A of eight new gates, additional concession and retail options, modern amenities and more, has made a huge difference.

They are adding a federal inspection station, or FIS, to support nonstop international commercial passenger flights, according to their news release from last year.

Also, if you have driven to the airport in the last year you know what I'm talking about here, as they are:

  • Relocating the federally owned air traffic control tower to make way for diverse terminal-area developments such as additional tenant hangars and more parking.
  • Completing Michigan’s first consolidated rental car facility, or CONRAC, to provide a dedicated facility for all rental car operations.
  • Adding more parking options.

In June, Club GRR opened, offering a premium experience with food and beverage services as major airports do with airline private clubs.

They are also working on the Terminal Enhancement Project, adding ticketing space and improved baggage management set for completion in 2027.

It is a big operation at the Ford Airport with more than 100 airport employees along with 1,300 employees of the airlines and food service.
