Jenny’s Phone Number is Now a Cancer Support Hotline
You might not recall the artist’s name but you know the world’s most famous phone number thanks to one of their songs. The band, Tommy Tutone, featured singer Tommy Heath and was named after a nickname given to him.
Released in 1981, “867-5309/Jenny” features Jenny, the girl shown in the official video. It was Tommy Tutone’s only hit, yet it still gets radio play today. Almost every cover band performs it, and fans keep singing and dancing along. Tommy Heath is the only original member still actively touring with the band.
The number 867-5309 became the most dialed for prank calls ever, forcing anyone who owned it to change their number in the early 1980s.
In the video, Heath plays a peeping Tom who gets caught by the police. It’s definitely creepy, maybe more than a little, but it also reflects how different the culture was in the ’80s, though, of course, there are still creeps today.

A Familiar Number Now Offers Hope for Cancer Patients
According to WOOD-TV, the world’s most famous seven-digit number now belongs to the Cancer Support Community, a nonprofit that offers information, support, and guidance from trained specialists to those affected by cancer. The number is CSC-867-5309.
Tommy Tutone's lead singer Tommy Heath said, "When we recorded 'Jenny/867-5309,' none of us imagined that number would still be stuck in people's heads decades later."

If the public needs information about cancer, they won’t have any trouble remembering the phone number to get help.
