Tuberculosis is an infectious disease primarily caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis. TB typically affects the lungs, but can spread to other organs, such as the brain, spine, and kidneys.

TB is a highly contagious bacterial infection that spreads through the air when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks. Close contact with an infected person, such as living in the same household or working in the same environment, increases the risk of catching the bacterial infection.

The scary part of TB is that the incubation period can range from a few weeks to several years, during which time, the bacteria may multiply in the body without causing any symptoms.
