Yoopers (and Northern Michiganders) are a special breed of people. They come together to help each other under all sorts of circumstances. So, I wasn't surprised in the least when I saw a post pop up on Facebook from a very unique group hoping to make a little boy's day.

We've all heard of the walk across the Mackinac Bridge every Labor Day, but did you know that the bridge also has some other yearly crossings?

Mackinac Bridge Antique Tractor Crossing

Having grown up in the area, the fact that this event exists doesn't surprise me one bit. Every year, an event is held that has been dubbed the Mackinac Bridge Antique Tractor Crossing.

1,500 antique tractors cross the bridge from Mackinaw City to St. Ignace each year, and folks line the streets in both towns to catch a glimpse of them.

One Young Boy, Lots of Tiny Tractors

One of those spectators is a specific little boy who sets up with his family in front of Conner's Park in St. Ignace every year to watch the convoy of tractors go by.

He's not just there to watch, though. Every year, he sets up a tractor parade of his own. Lining up dozens of toy tractors along the sidewalk that runs along the parade route in front of the park.

Mackinac Images, aka Ruth LaChapelle, a photographer based out of St. Ignace, has captured photos of the family and the tiny tractor train for the past few years.

How to Help Make the Tractor Train Bigger & Better This Year

This year, organizers of the event are asking other attendees to help make the tiny tractor train bigger and better, and to help make that little boy's day. They put a post on Facebook asking other attendees to bring toy tractors when they come to enjoy the weekend festivities and drop them off at the information booth at the staging area (Thursday and Friday), or at Little Bear East Arena on Saturday (until 2:00 p.m.)

Later on that afternoon, at the Tractor Games, the boy will be presented with all of the toy tractors that were collected (and it'll be a surprise!)

I hope someone catches video of the moment because I'm sure it will be one that the boy will never forget.
