In the post, she shared what happened and why she thinks her apartment is trying to gaslight her.

Alright y’all, my apartment is trying to gaslight me into saying this is a water bug… what are your thoughts? I’ve never ever come across this type of situation or have seen a roach in person. I keep my apartment clean and I have medical grade wipes that I got from the hospital and clean with those daily. I found this in a cupboard I rarely ever use and is usually empty. I am so disgusted, I may be a bit dramatic but I cried for over an hour when I found it last night and almost threw up.

Her Apartment Complex Responded

The anonymous user shared an email she got back from her Apartment complex, this is what they told her.

"We inspected the entire apartment home with professionals. We did not see any signs of any further pests and did not find any further pests. This is not an American cockroach. This appeared to be a water roach, that can be seen during seasonal change or increased rain. Please let us know if you notice anything of this further and we will address this accordingly. Thank you and have a great day.

Water bugs are typically brown or grayish in color, and they typically are about 2 inches in length. (Cockroaches are redder in color and can be bigger and smaller in comparison.) They also don’t have an antenna.

Cockroaches are usually reddish or brownish, although the oriental cockroaches (Blatta orientalis) are a lot darker. The main difference between a cockroach and a water bug is the antenna. Cockroaches will typically have very long antennas, and you usually can’t even see their head because it’s located below the thorax, which is where the legs and wings of the cockroach are attached.

How To Remove Cockroaches

If you do have cockroaches in your place here are some things you can do to try and get rid of them.

Clean your home: Cockroaches are attracted to food and water sources, so keeping your home clean is the easiest way to keep them at bay. Be sure to wipe up spills quickly, sweep and mop floors, vacuum rugs and carpets, wash dishes and clean counters as usual, but take additional steps to be sure no food residue is left behind for pests to find. Deep clean the microwave and keep spills inside wiped up. Additionally, eliminate standing water by drying out sinks every evening and covering the drain with a stopper.

Use bait and traps: Cockroach traps, sometimes referred to as “roach motels,” use bait to lure the cockroaches onto a powerful sticky surface similar to a glue strip. You can also use chemical bait, which is an effective way to get rid of roaches.

Exclude roaches from your home: Close up as many points of entry as possible. This could include affixing a door sweep to cover the crack between the bottom of a door and the ground or sealing up any holes in the foundation of a house.

Call a professional: Severe infestations will likely require the help of an expert pest management team. They can develop a treatment plan for your home, which may include baiting, monitoring, trapping, or spraying the cockroaches or providing education, cleaning and sanitization services, or insect growth regulators.
